    3rd Combat Aviation Brigade

HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – The Southeast and Coastal Georgia Red Cross paid a visit to Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield Jan. 22. The group toured Fort Stewart, including a visit to Warrior’s Walk, concluding the tour with a firsthand look at every helicopter platform the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade utilizes.

Esther Sheppard, executive director, Southeast and Coastal Georgia Red Cross, said the visit gave her a whole new perspective on just exactly what a Soldier's day is like.

“It just gives me a whole new level of respect for what our armed forces' service members do to keep us safe and protect our country,” Sheppard said.

Sheppard stated the part of the visit that impacted her most was the visit to Warrior’s Walk.

“I had never visited Warrior’s Walk before,” Sheppard said.

While visiting the memorial, Sheppard paid a visit to someone she knew in the CAB, Capt. Sara M. (Knutson) Cullen.

Cullen died March 11 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, in a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crash.

“Just to be able to stand in front of the tree that honors her for her service was very humbling for me,” Sheppard continued.

Also visiting was Terri Badour Duckett, chief executive officer, Georgia Region, American Red Cross.

“For us, it really brings to life the services that Red Cross provides to support those who serve,” Badour Duckett said. “It gives us a greater appreciation and respect for those men and women who serve our country. It’s also a great way for us to say thank you.”

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Caleb Sharpe, Troop C, 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, was on hand to show the tour participants the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior scout helicopter. He was also there to show his gratitude for all that the American Red Cross does for Soldiers.

“It feels good to give back to organizations like the American Red Cross. I’ve been in the Army for over 13 years and the Red Cross has always been there for us,” Sharpe said.
