CANTON, Ohio - The life of President William McKinley was celebrated in a wreath laying ceremony at his Library and Museum in Canton, Ohio, Jan. 31, 2015.

This year’s annual celebration hosted nearly 200 visitors to include members of the local community, civic patriots and history enthusiasts.

As part of the ceremony, a total of five wreaths were ceremonially presented in front of a statue of the assassinated president who was born 172 years ago.

Kimberly Kenney, curator of the President McKinley Library and Museum, announced those laying wreaths to include Civil War re-enactors, Masons of McKinley Lodge 431, Department of Ohio Army and Navy Union and the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States.

Brig. Gen. R.A. Bassford, deputy commanding general of the 88th RSC, placed the final wreath on behalf of the president of the United States.

While rendering honors, a cannon was fired by local Civil War re-enactors, followed by the playing of taps performed by Sgt. Luke Washburn of the 338th Army Band.
