SPARTANBURG, S.C. - A soldier from the 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade, Headquarters and Headquarters Company was chosen to represent the brigade as the Best Warrior Noncommissioned Officer during the state-level competition scheduled to take place Jan. 30–Feb. 3 at the McCrady Training Center in Eastover, S.C.
Sgt. Brian Lemieux, 228th TTSB, HHC, supply sergeant outperformed four other noncommissioned officers from throughout the brigade, during the competition, making him the representative for the 228th TTSB.
The brigade-level competition included tasks of an Army Physical Fitness Test, land navigation and ruck march combination event, Warrior Tasks and Battle drills, a written test, an essay, individual weapons qualification and an appearance in front of a board of high ranking enlisted leadership from the brigade, Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at the University Readiness Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
Lemieux said that his 11 years of military service helped him with the competition, as well as the physical and mental training he added. When Lemieux was not doing his work as the brigade supply sergeant, he was preparing for the competition.
“I ran at least nine miles a week and did an hour workout with pushups, situps and pullups, at least three times a week,” said Lemieux. “I also studied every chance, along with using anyone around me that I could, to ask about Army knowledge … There is no way that anyone could have done the things required without some type of preparation. I believe that every unit that I have been a part of has helped me progress to become the person and soldier that I am.”
With less than 45 days to prepare, from the time he was notified till the competition, Lemieux competed very well, said Sgt 1st Class Chad Stafford, 228th TTSB, HHC readiness noncommissioned officer and supervisor to Lemieux.
“I think he can win the [state] competition,” added Stafford.
During his service Lemieux has served with 1st Battalion, 151st Aviation Regiment, Echo Company; 151 Expeditionary Signal Battalion, Headquarters and Headquarters Company; and 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade, Headquarters and Headquarters Company. Lemieux has been deployed once with 1st Battalion, 151st Aviation Regiment to Iraq and Kuwait as a Standard Army Maintenance System-Enhanced operator.
