STUTTGART, Germany - A security force of U.S. Marines concluded their mission providing security support to the U.S. Embassy in Bangui, Central African Republic, Jan. 9.
The security force of Marines served nearly four months in support of the embassy's Regional Security Officer and Chief of Mission. The
Marines are assigned to Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Africa based in Spain and deployed to the Central African Republic in early September at the request of the U.S. State Department.
The Marine crisis response force in Spain is a rotational force with the rapid-response capability for the protection of U.S. citizens on the African continent, as directed by U.S. Africa Command. The Marines will return to force headquarters in Moron, Spain, upon completion of the turnover.
