SIGONELLA, Italy - Gunnery Sergeant Eric M. Brancheau is a Marine with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Africa who recently returned from a maintenance training engagement in Ghana, where he trained alongside the Ghanaian Armed Forces, Nov. 28-Dec. 9.
The Woodhaven, Mich., native worked alongside noncommissioned officers of the Ghanaian Armed Forces to enhance motor transportation maintenance and basic daily operations to include safety, records management, parts procurement, and parts accountability.
Brancheau was part of a mobile training team that helped improve readiness and overall knowledge about maintenance procedures with soldiers of the Ghanaian Armed Forces.
Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Africa out of Naval Air Station Sigonella is a rotational deployment of Marines and Sailors for theater security cooperation engagements in various African countries that started in 2011.
The current iteration is sourced from units across II Marine Expeditionary Force and is primarily sourced from Combat Logistics Battalion-2 out of Camp Lejeune, N.C. Also supporting SPMAGTF-CR-AF is a detachment from the U.S. Coast Guard.
SPMAGTF Crisis Response-Africa strengthens U. S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa and U. S. Africa Command’s ability to assist partner nations in addressing security challenges. Marines, Sailors, and Coast Guardsmen with SPMAGTF Crisis Response-Africa conduct theater security cooperation, military-to-military engagements and are trained to provide contingency support to crisis response.
