FORT BUCHANAN, Puerto Rico -Soldiers and civilians assigned to the 1st Mission Support Command (1st MSC) , US Army Reserve-Puerto Rico, the largest US Army command in the Caribbean, conducted the traditional tree lighting event at Fort Buchanan, Dec. 6.
During the event, Brig. Gen. José R. Burgos, 1st MSC commanding general, expressed his appreciation for the service of the soldiers and their families.
“I realize this season is especially difficult for the mobilized soldiers and their families, who will spend their holiday season away from their loved ones. I want everyone to know that I truly recognize and appreciate your great sacrifice and service,” said the senior US Army officer in the Caribbean region.
There are approximately 400 soldiers from the US Army Reserve in Puerto Rico, who are currently deployed to Afghanistan, Kuwait and other countries throughout the world.
A detachment of the 512th Transportation Company, out of the U.S. Virgin Islands, the 35th Expeditionary Signal Battalion out of Juana Diaz, PR and the 271st Postal Operations Company, are among the Army Reserve units deployed out of the 1st MSC.
Since 2001, over 5,000 soldiers from the US Army Reserve in Puerto Rico have deployed in support of the needs of the nation.
The Army Reserve-Puerto Rico creates thousands of local jobs in the US territory and represents an estimated economic injection of $150 million in the local economy.
