LOUISVILLE, Ky. – George Asafo-Adjei, 18, of West Chester, Ohio, was recognized for being selected to play in the Marine Corps Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl at Lakota West High School Oct. 31.

U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Ethan Millisor, a recruiter from Marine Recruiting Sub-Station Fairfield, Ohio, presented Asafo-Adjei with a SFAAB hat, shirt and football jersey at the start of Lakota West vs. Lakota East High School football game.

“It feels great that I have been noticed by a group or organization other than Lakota West High School,” Asafo-Adjei said. “It just feels great to be recognized and represent Chester, Ohio.”

The 6-foot-4, 295-pound offensive tackle and No. 42 for the Lakota West Varsity Football Team began playing football for the Firebirds in his freshman year of high school. He recently held offers to play at the college level from universities in Kentucky, Illinois, Minnesota, West Virginia and Cincinnati, but has committed to the University of Kentucky and is now slated to represent the Marine Corps East Team during the 4th annual Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl Game taking place on January 4, 2015, at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

“It means that I could prove to other people that you can make it no matter what circumstances you have been through,” Asafo-Adjei said. “It all pays off and this will show some of my younger teammates that they need to start working hard and this can all happen for them too.”

The United States Marine Corps annually recognizes exemplary student athletes across the country by assembling opposing teams to go head-to-head during the SFAAB. The Lakota West High School coach, Larry Cox, said he plans to attend the game to support Asafo-Adjei.

“They all know what I should do and how I should walk,” Asafo-Adjei said. “Hopefully, I can come away with a great experience. I’ll get to see other people that I know there. I know some players that have committed to other schools who will be there. I haven’t seen them in a while. I’ll get to see those guys and my coach will be there to support me.”

In its fourth year, the game will feature approximately 100 student athletes selected from across the country based on their athletic and academic achievements and leadership traits synonymous with the Marine Corps values of honor, courage and commitment.

“This is a great opportunity for him,” Millisor said. “He shows leadership among his teammates and does a great job at representing his community through his sport. He always shows endurance, he’s always going, always working hard motivating his team and always sets the example. We are really proud of him.”

The Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl will be broadcasted live on Fox Sports 1 at 6 p.m. PST. For more information about the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, visit www.semerpfidelisfootball.com.
