FORT STEWART, Ga. -- Soldiers of Troop B, 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment “Garryowen,” 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, hosted an educational field trip for 38 students of the Savannah High School’s Army JROTC Battalion here at the 3-7th Garryowen Motor Pool, April 2.
The students were there to learn about the Cavalry Scouts, and about some of the opportunities that the military has to offer. The students were also able to get some hands-on time with some of B Troop’s military equipment.
The Garryowen Soldiers split the 38 students into small group teams and had them rotate through eight different stations, allowing for the students to experience a hands-on approach to learning what a Cavalry Scouts job is like.
Amongst the different stations, the children were able to do a number of different things such as don Chemical Biological Nuclear Radiation protective equipment and the full combat kit of the Garryowen Soldier, as well as get hands on experience with a number of different military weapons platforms.
After a full morning with the Soldiers, the students enjoyed a Garryowen meal at the 2nd ABCT’s Dining Facility.
“It was a great opportunity for us to showcase what we can do in an unconventional format while maintaining a good community relationship,” Capt. Matthew Liebal, commander, B Troop, 3-7th CAV, said of the days event. “It was beneficial for everyone involved.”
