    646th Regional Support Group

WAUSAU, Wis. - The 687th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, headquartered in Wausau, Wis., changed commanders on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014. Lt. Col. Robert Hovey passed the unit colors to Lt. Col. William Wilkerson in a change of command ceremony attended by company leadership and Col. Dominic Wibe, commander of the 646th Regional Support Group. Hovey took command in January 2013.

"My primary goal when I came here was to mentor the junior officers; and getting to know them over the course of the two years has really been an experience that I have enjoyed. They have astounded me at every turn," Hovey said when speaking about his two years with the 687th, "I have learned more from them then they have from me."

Wilkerson, last served as the Mobility Branch Officer-in-charge for the 310th Expeditionary Sustainment Command in Indianapolis.

"This will be a great opportunity to get back down from the strategic level, to the operational level and work with Soldiers and troops as opposed mostly senior officers and NCOs." He also stated that his goal is to shift focus to MOS and duty training based on the philosophy of Maj. Gen. Les Carroll, commander of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command, who values training over a focus on unit stats.

The 687th provides financial, quartermaster, ordnance and maintenance support and has units throughout Wisconsin as well as unit detachments in Illinois and Ohio.

Hovey gave one last remark for his Soldiers: "If I was going to give them a piece of advice; don't be too quick to judge, relax, concentrate and do your job."
