FORT DRUM, N.Y. - Soldiers from the 22nd Chemical Battalion (Technical Escort) conducted a Stryker Nuclear Biological Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle (NBCRV) live fire exercise in October.
During the exercise on Fort Drum, the Soldiers qualified with the NBCRV's .50 caliber remote weapons system.
The Dragon Soldiers were from the Fort Drum-based 1st Platoon, 59th Chemical Company, 22nd Chemical Battalion (Technical Escort), 48th Chemical Brigade, 20th CBRNE Command (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives).
Based on 19 posts in 16 states, 20th CBRNE is the Department of Defense's only formation that combats chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive threats.
A wheeled fighting vehicle, the agile, mobile and lethal Stryker bridges the gap between heavy and light U.S. Army formations. The NBCRV is a variant of the Stryker fighting vehicle designed for CBRN units.
CBRN Soldiers qualify with the NBCRV twice a year.
According to 22nd Chemical Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Eric Towns, the Stryker Nuclear Biological Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle enables his troops to perform their life saving mission in enemy territory.
"This type of training is essential to ensure that our platoons and teams can operate in any type of environment with or without enemy presence," said Towns, a native of Lake Charles, La.
