CAMP STRIKER, Iraq - Apache helicopters killed three insurgents southeast of Baghdad after an attack on a coalition forces convoy, Nov. 27.

The attack originated from a house near the road the convoy was on near the Tigris River. The Apaches, from 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, were called to engage the enemy forces in the house.

After positive identification of the enemy was made and clearance was given by ground forces the Apaches attacked the enemy forces at the house with 30mm cannon and Hellfire missiles, killing three.

The capabilities of Iraqi security forces and the government are improving, said Lt. Col. Greg Kanicki, operations officer, 3rd CAB, but that does not mean coalition forces will relax.

"We will still root out the enemy," he said. "Just because security has improved doesn't mean we are going to stop in our hunt for the enemy. We are not forgetting who they are."
