CAMP TAJI, Iraq – Dining Facility 2 got a new name recently. "We named the DFAC the Cantigny, after the first major victory for the American 1st Expeditionary Division at Cantigny, France in May, 1918," said Chief Warrant Officer Russell Campbell, food service technician for the 1st Sustainment Brigade.
The dining facility is a large building with lots of seating. It is open for meals four times a day and serves on average 3,500 Soldiers and civilians. Inside there are two additional rooms for seating. One is "Operation Junction City," named after the battle in Vietnam, and the other is the "Shadley Room" after retired Maj. Gen. Robert Shadley, honorary colonel of the 1st Sustainment Brigade. Shadley commanded the unit during Desert Storm and Desert Shield when it was still the 1st Infantry Division Support Command.
"I have a strong love for this unit. It has a treasured history of supporting our Soldiers and the 1st Sustainment Brigade is carrying on that tradition," said Shadley during a recent visit.
