CAMP STRIKER, Iraq — The Camp Striker Turkey Trot brought Soldiers together for more than dressing and pumpkin pie.
The Morale, Welfare and Recreation Center organized the Thanksgiving morning 5K run in which 41 Soldiers participated.
Maj. James Wilburn, 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, completed the run first, in 17 minutes and 52 seconds.
"It's a social outlet, a way to support unit and MWR programs, a chance to interact with other soldiers, and an opportunity to get away from the TOC (Tactical Operations Center) for a little bit," Wilburn said. "For a lot of us, Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate with families. While deployed, my family members are the Soldiers I work with day in and day out. I can't think of a better way to start a day of thanks than enjoying a few laughs and running through a quick workout with them."
