LANSING, Mich. – On Friday, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder's staff will roll out a new website which will allow Michigan National Guard members to sign up for tuition assistance thanks to House Bill 5451. Michigan State Representative Bruce Rendon, District 103, sponsored the bill and Snyder signed it last month.
House Bill 5451 is known as the Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance Act and will provide yearly tuition assistance to qualified Michigan National Guard members attending Michigan colleges, universities and vocational schools.
According to Maj. Gen. Gregory Vadnais, the adjutant general and director of the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the tuition assistance bill is a great incentive to assist in maintaining Michigan’s military readiness.
“This is a tremendous tool for our team to recruit and retain the best and brightest Soldiers and Airmen,” said Vadnais.
On Friday at 10:30 a.m., Snyder will participate in the annual pass in review of the troops at Camp Grayling’s parade field, and Soldiers and Airmen training at Camp Grayling will be on hand to hear about the new tuition assistance they can utilize.
To sign up for the MING tuition assistance, members should visit www.michigan.gov/mingstap, or they can call 517.481.7640 or email MINGSTAP@michigan.gov.
