MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. - Col. Jeff S. Kojac relinquished command of Marine Air Control Group 28 to Lt. Col. Matthew Culbertson during a change of command ceremony at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Aug. 6.
MACG-28 supports 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing with Marine air command control, aviation combat element communications and unmanned aerial vehicle capabilities.
Kojac arrived at MACG-28 in late 2012 and will leave 2nd MAW to join Headquarters Marine Corps’ Department of Aviation.
“I enjoyed being a part of the best wing in the Marine Corps,” said Kojac. “For the Marines of MACG-28, continue to live what matters to us, which is operational excellence, standards-based success and leadership that manifests respect and concern for all."
Culbertson returns to MACG-28 for the third time in his career. He previously served as a ground weapons and tactics instructor, executive officer and commander of MACG-28 (Forward) when the squadron deployed to Afghanistan during 2008 and 2009.
“The Marines and Sailors of MACG-28 are a fantastic group who … have been combat tested and rose to the occasion every time while remaining happy doing their job,” said Culbertson. “Now, as we transition away from (Afghanistan), our readiness needs to be at an incredibly high level.”
Culbertson returns to MACG-28 after serving as deputy branch head with Headquarters Marine Corps’ Department of Aviation.
“I am honored to be here with you,” said Culbertson. “I look forward to our time together as a team and I anticipate lots of future success.”
