    Coast Guard Continues Humanitarian Missions in Dominican Republic

    MIAMI - U.S. Coast Guard aircrews distributed 550 rations of food and 240 rations of water, 30 boxes of blankets and 5,000 personal hygiene items Nov. 4 to victims of Tropical Storm Noel in the Dominican Republic.

    Coast Guard aircrews flew a combined total of 14 hours during five sorties and have, since Nov. 1, saved 54 lives and distributed 29,838 rations of food and 74,970 rations of water. Tropical Storm Noel is responsible for taking the lives of more than 80 Dominicans since the Storm made land fall Oct. 31.

    The Coast Guard has been providing assistance in the Dominican Republic since after humanitarian relief and search and rescue assistance was requested by the country's president from the United States through the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo.
