FORT HOOD, Texas -- Bell County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 officials reported that their main water line is repaired.
Fort Hood officials anticipate water pressure will return to normal here tomorrow morning.
Fort Hood remains in Stage 4 water restrictions until further notice.
Consumption of water by all customers shall be limited to essential use only. Customers are highly encouraged to conserve water, using only for drinking, cooking and/or personal hygiene until situation is completely resolved.
This includes prohibition of lawn irrigation, washing of vehicles, filling of pools, non-essential indoor and outdoor use, etc. The quality of water has not been affected, just the quantity at this point.
Once water delivery has resumed to Fort Hood, customers can expect to experience the following scenarios as the distribution lines are systematically recharged:
- Water service will be restored incrementally across the installation. Some areas may experience low water pressure, or not have water service, until late today July 14 or morning of July 15.
- All personnel should continue to follow the instructions in the boil water notice until the notice is lifted by American Water. The boil water order is expected to remain in effect until at least the morning of July 16.
- Water sampling will be conducted by the water utility provider in accordance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules before the boil water order is lifted.
- Water utility crews will be flushing the system as part of bringing the system back online; this is a routine operation of the utility system.
- Some customers may see discolored water (yellow and/or brown) as the system is being re-charged. This will clear up as the water is being used and the system is flushed. If residents have discolored water, they should run an outside faucet for 10 minutes and check again. If the problem persists, call the Directorate of Public Works service desk at 254-287-2113. Use caution before doing laundry if you have discolored water.
- Some customers may see milky colored water or have spurts of air coming out of the faucet. This is due to air in the water mains and will clear up with use and flushing of the system.
- Customers who have restricted flow or low flows out of individual faucets after July 16 should follow their normal service request procedure.
Water trailers containing potable water are being positioned in housing areas. Residents should contact community mayors for additional information.
Copperas Cove, Harker Heights and Killeen water supplies are also affected. For information, visit their city websites at http://www.ci.copperas-cove.tx.us/; http://www.ci.harker-heights.tx.us/ or http://www.killeentexas.gov/.
