FORT BLISS, Texas – U.S. Army Reserve soldiers from the 333rd Engineer Company returned from a tour in Afghanistan, Feb. 28, at the Arrival/Departure Air Control Group, here.

The Deputy Commanding General of the 412th Theater Engineer Command, Brig. Gen. Miyako N. Schanely, expressed that she had “the privilege of welcoming home the 333rd Eng. Co. from theater.”

“On behalf of Maj. Gen. William Buckler Jr., the commanding general of the 412th TEC, we are tremendously proud of these soldiers and their service overseas and the sacrifices that their families make. We are welcoming them home, and now our task is to help them reintegrate back into their units, jobs and families,” said Schanely.

With 27 various locations throughout the country of Afghanistan, the 333rd Eng. Co. finished 156 construction missions, conducted 167 convoys and did six demilitarization missions of forward operating bases. Demilitarization missions consist of tearing down and cleaning up forward operating bases.

Sgt. Terry Speck is a combat medic with 333rd Eng. Co. His responsibility was to provide and assist the soldiers with their medical needs along with providing combat life saving skills.

“I wasn’t organic with this unit originally,” said Speck. “They showed me such camaraderie, going from FOB to FOB, and they did a terrific job. This was my first deployment. I am looking to re-up next year when I can.”

Speck will be returning to his civilian job in Reading, Pa., as the director of operations for a Holiday Inn Express.

“They are welcoming me back with open arms, so it has been a great experience,” said Speck.

The 333rd Eng. Co. will demobilize for a couple of days before taking another flight back to Reading, Pa., where their families will be waiting for them.
