INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey - Turkish and U.S. Air Force service members came together to test the BAK-12 aircraft arresting barrier system Feb. 24 here.
With the help of airmen assigned to the 39th Air Base Wing and Turkish air force service members, Turkish air force pilots sent two F-4 Phantoms down the runway at landing speed to test the integrity of the barrier system.
The aircraft arresting barriers are tested annually at Incirlik AB to ensure that the system is in good shape, in case of emergencies involving brake failure, steering problems or if an aircraft cannot safely use the full length of the runway.
