YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea - A Quad City, Ill., native was promoted to colonel here Dec. 26.
U.S. Army Col. Ivan P. Beckman was promoted to his current rank during a ceremony presided over by Eighth Army commanding general Lt. Gen. Bernard S. Champoux.
His wife, Haerin Lee Beckman, and daughters, LeeAnn P. Beckman, Annadele J. Beckman and Isabel K. Beckman, attended the ceremony here at the U.S. military headquarters post in Seoul, along with his parents, Quad City residents Ann E. Beckman and Philip M. Beckman.
A West Point graduate and combat engineer with 22 years of service, Beckman has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. He also served for nine years in South Korea and commanded the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion with the Fort Campbell, Ky.-based 101st Airborne Division.
Beckman currently serves as the executive officer for the Eighth Army commanding general, the top U.S. Army commander on the Korean Peninsula.
“This day came for me because of four things - opportunities, great leaders, outstanding sergeants and soldiers, truly the greatest of any generation,” said Beckman.
