GULFPORT, Miss. - Seabees and sailors attached to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 74 participated in a command sponsored pre-deployment fair Friday, Dec. 13 at the Long Beach Community Center in Long Beach Mississippi.
The event was designed to equip its readily deployable attendees as well as their families with all the information necessary to prepare them for the rigors of their upcoming European deployment.
The Bees, with checklists in hand, navigated a spiraling setup of information-filled booths manned by members of all of the services made available to them by the United States Navy, as well as Naval Construction Battalion Command. Representatives available ranged from United Services Automobile Association, to The Fleet and Family Support Center. The fair was created to put all of the resources necessary for service members to deploy in a centrally convenient location.
“Pre-deployment fairs are good opportunities to promote family readiness, which people often take for granted,” said Chief Builder Bernard Willis, NMCB 74 Command Drug and Alcohol Programs Advisor (DAPA). “Many times we focus more on military training operations and other tenants of the readiness plan. Bringing families together with the Seabees and sailors to introduce them to the programs that are available to them promotes family readiness, which in turn ensures overall mission success.”
The fair was immediately followed by a gift raffle for participating members as part of the command Christmas party. The party included a visit from Santa Claus with gifts for the children, as well as an inflatable jump house and various family friendly activities.
NMCB 74 trains year round in an effort to maintain their readily deployable status. For more news and information on NMCB 74, visit www.navy.mil/local/nmcb74/.
