    NATO Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan

HELMAND PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan commandos of the 7th Special Operations Kandak conducted operations Dec. 13 to clear Now Zad district’s Bar Nowazad village of insurgents.

Local insurgents have been using the village as a staging ground for training and then moving suicide bombers throughout Helmand province, said Maj. Hazarmiri Amiri, 7th SOK’s executive officer.

Insurgent activity in Now Zad has increased since Afghan Special Forces soldiers and Commandos began operations to remove insurgents from districts outlining central Helmand.

“Now Zad is important to [the 7th SOK], because we can stop the Taliban from turning it into a training ground in the future,” said Amiri, highlighting why the Commandos have made removing the Taliban from Now Zad one of its highest priorities.
