HERAT PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army special forces of the 9th Special Operations Kandak mentored 40 Afghan National Directorate of Security officials completing four days of weapons training Nov. 21 in Herat province.
The Afghan National Security Forces did the training to build interagency cooperation and enhance security in the Nizam-E-Shahid district, said Brig. Gen Amir Shah, provincial NDS chief.
The training included basic weapon skills and advanced marksmanship techniques usually reserved for tactical units. Shah and Lt. Col. Najibullah Baloch, 9th SOK commander, praised and recognized the best shooters at the end of the training.
“[We] wanted to highlight the outstanding partnership between the security forces to the people of Herat,” explained Shah.
Afghan special forces specialize in a variety of tactical skills, but also serve as mentors for other Afghan security forces such as the NDS.
Afghan leaders hope training like this leads to effective cooperation between partner forces and improved security in the province.
