BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Coalition forces saved the life of a 9-year-old Afghan girl who was bitten on the ankle by a poisonous snake in Doa China District, Paktika province.

Coalition forces medically evacuated the girl to a nearby treatment facility where she is recovering after being given anti-venom to treat her wound.

Coalition forces launched a medevac mission specifically to help the girl after a passing coalition patrol stopped to come to her aid. Doa China is an isolated district where there are no medical facilities and therefore she was fortunate coalition forces were in the area to provide necessary care.

"Coalition forces provide so much more assistance to the Afghan population than security, such as development and medical care," said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, a Combined Joint Task Force-82 spokesperson. "We are pleased the girl is doing well. This is another case of Coalition forces reaching out to provide vital medical aid to the Afghan people."
