    NANGARHAR PROVINCE, AFGHANISTAN

Story by Staff Sgt. Opal Vaughn

    NATO Special Operations Component Command-Afghanistan

NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan National Army commandos prevented an attack in Amber Kheyl village, Boti Kot District, killing one enemy insurgent and wounding another after the two attackers attempted to breach their position by motorcycle Oct. 22.

Commandos from 1st Special Operations Kandak were clearing Amber Kheyl village when the two insurgents riding motorcycles began aggressively moving toward the blocking position, failing to stop on command.

The commandos immediately opened fire and overpowered the enemy fighters, killing one and wounding the other. The enemy fighters were discovered to have several weapons.

The success of this operation allows Afghan National Security Forces to maintain a strong presence by disrupting insurgents in the area and degrading their ability to plan and initiate further attacks along Highway-7 and Amber Kheyl village.

In the past, insurgents have utilized Amber Kheyl village for the facilitation of weapons and ammunition according to a 1st SOK leader. In September, two separate operations were conducted in order to maintain pressure on insurgents in Boti Kot District. The operations forced many insurgents to flee the area.

Afghan National Army commandos are an elite group that conducts high-risk operations in remote areas known to be enemy strongholds. These counterinsurgency missions assist national and local police in their efforts to increase security, governance and development.

No civilians were injured and there were no reported structural damages during this operation.
