BALKH PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan National Security Forces detained four suspected insurgents Oct. 11 while conducting clearing operations near Som Say Village.
During the operation, Afghan National Army Special Forces from 5th Special Operations Kandak questioned 37 military aged males. After a thorough background check four suspected insurgents were detained.
Afghan National Security Forces are the most significant threat to insurgent activities. On the morning of Sept. 21, 2013, a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle borne improvised explosive device at a bazaar in the Chahar Bolak district of Balkh province.
Attacks such as these on the Afghan people demonstrate the insurgency’s concern over the strength of the ANSF. It is for this reason ANSF continue to conduct counterinsurgency missions that assist national and local police in their efforts to increase security, governance and community development.
No civilians were injured and there were no reported structural damages during this operation.
