Combined Joint Task Force-82
PANJSHIR, Afghanistan – Known for growing especially sweet peaches and mulberries, Panjshiris are also cultivating the democratic process.
Today the Panjshir leaders of governance, public health, communications, education and other sectors began five days of strategic planning with national-level ministry representatives as part of the Sub-National Consultation process.
"This is our opportunity as a province to develop a unified plan for our future so we can tell our national leaders in Kabul exactly what we want done here," said Panjshir Gov. Bahlol in his opening speech. "This plan will be provided by the people in support of the [Islamic Republic of Afghanistan]."
The SNC is a national process making its way across the country to aid provincial governments in refining their development plans. The Afghan National Development Strategy guides these provincial development plans. The plans will also help Kabul direct and coordinate government budgeting, international funding, as well as the efforts of non-governmental organizations.
"The [Islamic Republic of Afghanistan] wants the people to share in the creation of its national development strategy," said Rahmani, an SNC facilitator. "This plan will be representative of priorities the people feel they need supported."
The five-day process includes three days of working groups discussing goals and projects. On the final two days, development projects are selected and prioritized.
"Without having a plan for our province, we will not be able to complete anything," said Provincial Council chairman Bahaduri. "This cooperation of the people shows the will of the people to work as one."
