FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. – Senior enlisted leaders from the 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade inducted 38 newly promoted sergeants into the Corps of the Noncommissioned Officer during a ceremony at the Nutter Field House here, Sept. 11.

“We chose Patriots’ Day for the ceremony in order to honor the individuals who gave their lives on 9/11. Also these noncommissioned officers who are being inducted into the NCO Corps need to see their purpose and be aware of the rite-of-passage that leads them into duty to support events from our past that shape their future. We wanted to honor our past and forge toward the future,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Federico E. Boyce, senior enlisted adviser, 4th MEB, 1st Infantry Division.

The ceremony began with a video of 9/11 footage and the soundtrack of Darryl Worley’s “Have You Forgotten?”

As the song played, ceremony attendants could see a display of a table with symbolic items and an empty chair set up in the corner of the stage. The display, which is traditionally referred to as a Table of the Fallen Comrade, was set up to remind the onlookers of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation.

“I was really young when 9/11 happened so I didn’t understand it for a long time, but now seeing the footage is like a kick in the chest,” said Sgt. Amanda Wilson, heavy equipment operator, 103rd Engineer Company, 94th Engineer Battalion, 4th MEB, 1st ID.

Wilson said that being in this induction ceremony on such an important day was really special and that it meant a lot to take such a big step in her career.

“I will remember this for the rest of my life,” said Wilson.
