FORT STEWART, Ga. - Sgt. Michael Williams from Kennesaw, Ga., is currently training with 1-108th Cavalry’s Alpha Troop stationed in Cedartown during “eXportable Combat Training Capability” (XCTC) at Fort Stewart’s Georgia Garrison Training Center on Sept. 8, 2013.
Williams, an infantryman, fires the MK-19 grenade launcher during a live-fire range. Williams has been in the Georgia Army National Guard for three years. When not wearing Army green, Williams is an armored courier for Loomis and is attending Kennesaw State University as a mathematics major.
The Georgia National Guard 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team hosts the XCTC program to provide soldiers with an experience similar to combat missions overseas. XCTC is a battalion field-training instrument designed to certify company proficiency in coordination with First Army. More than 2,000 Georgia Guardsmen have converged on the regional training center at Fort Stewart, minimizing cost and time otherwise spent traveling to one of the Army’s Combat Training Centers in Fort Irwin, Calif., or Fort Polk, La.
