PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Members of Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Pittsburgh and the Coast Guard Enlisted Association partnered with Flags Across America during a ceremony held at Point State Park in Pittsburgh, Wednesday, to commemorate the 40 lives lost from terrorist attacks aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001.

The ceremony consisted of the history, a speech by Cmdr. Lindsay Weaver, commanding officer of MSU Pittsburgh, the placement of flags on Point State Park, and the playing of the songs “Taps” and “Amazing Grace”. In remembrance of when the plane went down, “Taps” was played at 10:03 a.m.

“Prior to ‘taps’, we had a moment of silence and then saluted to the song,” said Weaver. “These flags will stay on site until sunset, at which time the Park Rangers will remove them.”

The history included the mission of Flags Across America and the events on 9/11.
