Story by 2nd Lt. John Parry

    II Marine Expeditionary Force

CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan - A Waynesboro, Va., native and U.S. Marine deployed to the Helmand province here from Camp Lejeune, N.C., with Combat Logistics Regiment 2, Regional Command (Southwest), in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, July 9.

While in Afghanistan, Sgt. Travis Chandler, a vehicle recovery specialist and mechanic, will provide logistical support to forward deployed Marines, U.S. allies and Afghan National Security Forces.

“If not for us, there wouldn’t be a way to recover broken vehicles on a mission,” said Chandler, a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School.

Chandler added he joined the Marine Corps to carry on a tradition his father and brother had also partaken in. He mentioned the favorite part of his job is the act of recovering the vehicles that have broken down on a mission.
