WASHINGTON - DTRA/SCC-WMD/HQ-E Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) Sgt. Maj. Scott Mykoo, U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) joined agency/center employees on August 27 for an evening reception honoring U.S. Veterans from all branches of service at the Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH) in Washington, DC.
Volunteers from across the agency/center took the opportunity to socialize with honored Veterans, hear their personal service stories, and thank them for their important contributions to our nation. Additionally, DTRA/SCC-WMD employees helped escort residents in wheelchairs to the event and passed out food and drinks during the reception.
“Visiting the AFRH was a heartfelt, honorable and moving experience for me,” said DTRA/SCC-WMD Chief of Security Mike Estep. “Some of the men reminded me of my father, a WWII Veteran who served as a submariner out in the Pacific. Those men and women are national treasures in my mind. I plan to visit the AFRH again… and the next time I visit, my wife and daughter will be there with me.”
This was not the first time that agency/center employees have taken the opportunity to visit the AFRH. Past visits have been met with the same level of enthusiasm and support. Together, Veterans and agency volunteers are working to foster a strong and standing relationship between DTRA/SCC/HQ-E Military members and AFRH residents.
*Note: On August 29, Sgt. Maj. Mykoo relinquished his position as CSEL to Sergeant Major Howard K. Long, USMC.
