FORT MCCOY, Wis. – A $19 million tactical equipment maintenance facility, warehouse and organizational parking area for Equipment Concentration Site No. 67 is underway and expected to be complete and fully functional sometime in 2015.
The project funded in 2013, will include a 58,000 square-foot tactical equipment maintenance facility, a 44,000 square-foot general purpose storage facility and a 30-acre organizational parking lot.
The Army Reserve’s 88th Regional Support Command along with KEPA-TCI (Architects, Engineers, contractor of La Crosse, Wis.) Joint Venture LLC who has been awarded the contract, hosted the event. The 88th RSC based at Fort McCoy is one of four RSCs in the Army Reserve and provides base operations support for a 19-state region from Ohio to the Pacific coast and from Kansas to the Canadian border.
Army Maj. Gen. Karen E. LeDoux, the commander of the 88th Regional Support Command, presided over the groundbreaking event and welcomed guests on a day that marked both the beginning of the construction project and a bright future for ECS No. 67.
“The tactical equipment maintenance facility being co-located with ECS #67 will allow the workers to work more efficiently and more effectively because they will be co-located with all the operations for ECS #67. So this will improve overall Army Reserve equipment readiness, and allow for more efficient and effective operations not only in maintaining the equipment, but also when we issue the equipment and when we receive it back and perform maintenance on the equipment and return it back to the equipment concentration site,” said LeDoux.
“The expansion of ECS #67 will help support the garrison’s transient mission by providing more robust capability and cost effective equipment and training to all agencies within the joint international intergovernmental multinational environment; a well maintained, realistic environment that could not accomplish its mission without the existence of ECS #67,” stated Col. Steven W. Nott, Fort McCoy garrison commander.
Fort McCoy is one of eight installations in the Army to have Joint National Training Capability certification; an enhanced way of training that offers the services — from the tactical through strategic levels — a potential spectrum of live, virtual and constructive training environments ECS No. 7 allows Fort McCoy to do this, according to Nott.
Army Reserve leaders along with Joint Venture LLC and ECS No. 67 employees used gold-painted shovels to break ground during the ceremony, leading the way for the new temporary equipment maintenance facilities.
