(Staff Writer, Combat Logistics Regiment 2 Public Affairs)
A Fort Mill, S.C., native and U.S. Marine deployed to the Helmand province from Camp Lejeune, N.C., with Combat Logistics Regiment 2, Regional Command (Southwest), in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, July 9.
While in Afghanistan, Cpl. Michael Volker, a combat engineer, will provide logistical support to forward deployed Marines, U.S. allies and advise the Afghan National Security Forces in developing their own logistical capabilities.
“I joined because I like the environment and wanted to do more than the average joe,” Voker said.
An inspiration to him, Volker claims his father continues to mentor and guide him and is his personal hero.
