HERAT PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Soldiers of the 2nd Special Operations Brigade (SOB) received a Presidential Valorous Combat unit award for bravery and heroic actions during a ceremony in Shindand District, Herat province, Aug. 8.
More than 100 Afghan National Army soldiers proudly stood in formation as the Ministry of Defense Chief Legal Officer Brig. Gen. Abdul Majeed Khawari recognized their recent success during numerous combat missions throughout the SOB’s area of operations that spans from Herat city to Kandahar.
Recent presence patrols and searches throughout the province led to significant cache finds as well as capture and elimination of insurgents, including senior Taliban commanders targeting Afghan partner forces and defenseless civilians.
“They’re receiving this award because they are champions,” said Capt. Mohammed Sediq.
Brig. Gen. Khawari praised the soldiers for serving their country as defenders of their nation and fighting an unknown enemy in a global war on terrorism.
“You are the guardians and sons of Afghanistan,” said Brig. Gen. Khawari. “Your bravery will defeat all enemies of our country!”
Afghan senior military leaders presiding over the ceremony included Brig. Gen. Khawari, 2nd SOB Commander Col. Farid, 4th Special Operations Kandak Commander Lt. Col. Saifullah and 4th Special Operations Kandak Chief of Intelligence Capt. Mohammed Sediq.
