LOGAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Insurgents used a remote-controlled improvised explosive device that killed two civilians and wounded two more during Ramadan in Baraki Barak district, Logar province, Aug. 4.
Attacks such as these that murder or injure Afghan citizens, especially during the most holy time of the year, demonstrate the insurgency’s lack of concern for who is harmed by improvised explosive devices emplaced throughout the country.
Insurgents killed and wounded the civilians as they were shopping at a Barak Rajan bazaar vegetable stand in preparation for Eid al-Fitr. This is the third attack in Barak Rajan in two days.
“These attacks are illegitimate in the religion of Islam and against the instructions and commands of the holy Quran,” said Qeyamuddin Kashaf, Chief of the Ulema (Clerics) Council of Afghanistan.
Insurgents’ indiscriminate use of improvised explosive devices is the principle cause of death to Afghans and was the primary contributor to nearly 3,500 civilian deaths in 2012.
