DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. - The base softball team, Overrated, is slated to compete in the United States Specialty Sports Association Military World Tournament in Panama City, Fla. Aug. 16-18.
The team is comprised of airmen and Department of Defense contractors and civilian workers here. Not all of the team will be going due to various responsibilities and lack of funds. The following team members were able to make arrangements to travel:
· Master Sgt. Manolito Carrabis, team coach, 355th Civil Engineering Squadron
· Master Sgt. Cam Engleman, 355th Civil Engineering Squadron
· Master Sgt. Michael Kaczmarek, 355th Fighter Wing
· Master Sgt. Billy Dunn, 355th Communications Squadron
· Tech. Sgt. Matt LeMay, 355th Security Forces Squadron
· Tech. Sgt. Chris Roberson, 355th Civil Engineering Squadron
· Tech. Sgt. Danford Rabideau, 355th Logistics Readiness Squadron
· Staff Sgt. William Twaddell, 355th Civil Engineering Squadron
· Staff Sgt. Darick Cailing, 355th Equipment Maintenance Squadron
· Staff Sgt. Danny Ellis, 355th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron
· Staff Sgt. Cleofies White, 355th Civil Engineering Squadron
· Staff Sgt. Jeffery Stark, 355th Civil Engineering Squadron
· Senior Airman Shamond Hoskins, 355th Security Forces Squadron
· Bob Rice, 355th Contracting Squadron
The USSSA tournament is set up in a three-game-guarantee bracket and is separated into four divisions: over 40, intramural, men's varsity A and men's varsity B. Overrated will compete in the men's varsity B division.
The tournament is scheduled to start Aug. 15 with opening ceremonies, a Wounded Warrior game, and home run derby. Opening play will start the following day.
"One of the goals is to have more than one team from D-M come to the tournament," said Sgt. Kaczmarek, a nine-year member of Overrated. "We haven't been able to do that because of a lack of interest and funding. It's a fun experience. We're competitive, and we hope to represent the base well."
