ALBANY, Ga. - Brig. Gen. Robert F. Castellvi, commanding general, Marine Corps Installations East and commander, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, visited Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany July 25-26 in his first official visit to a base since taking command of MCIEAST, July 12.
During his visit, Castellvi toured Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, was briefed by base officials on the daily operations and functions of the base and tenant commands and took the opportunity to speak with Marines, civilian-Marines and base employees in a “town hall” type forum.
“It is important for me to be here, at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, and talk with all of you,” Castellvi said. “This base, in coordination with Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, and tenant commands serve as the logistics backbone for the Marine Corps and continues to support the warfighter, specifically those forward deployed Marines and Civilian-Marines.”
During the forum, Castellvi also shared his command philosophy, emphasized the importance of the team effort and offered strategies to maintain a balance in daily routines, while still accomplishing the mission.
He also responded to questions and comments from the audience as he listened to their thoughts and concerns on the-way-ahead, given the current fiscally austere situation the base, and the entire Department of Defense, faces.
Castellvi highlighted the importance of the base and tenant commands’ mission and the effectiveness of each individual’s work to the overall Marine Corps’ logistical mission in a time when re-organization, re-structure and the ability to remain flexible are keys to success as the Marine Corps remains the nations’ force in readiness.
“Despite our current situation, (you work to support the warfighter) with utmost professionalism and focus on the task at hand and mission accomplishment. That work ethic is what keeps us moving forward,” Castellvi added.
Col. Don Davis, commanding officer, MCLB Albany, said it was a pleasure to be the first base to host Brig. Gen. Castellvi as he tours the installations of MCIEAST.
“Our mission here directly aligns with Brigadier General Castellvi’s command philosophy and we look forward to continuing what we are doing here in support of the larger, Marine Corps’ mission,” he said. “We have great Marines, Civilian-Marines and base employees that will continue moving us ahead, and forging the way, as a premier base and installation and I look forward to that progression and development.”
Castellvi kicked-off his base/installations tour at MCLB Albany and, in conjunction with his visit, attended the assumption-of-command ceremony as Maj. Gen. John J. Broadmeadow took command of Marine Corps Logistics Command here, Friday.
