JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL, Va. - The morning of July 6 started promising for the Fort Myer Squid swim team at the Officer Club pools, but the relay portion of the dual meet against the Cascades Rapids team was the difference in the FMST’s latest Colonial Swimming League encounter.

The Squid swimmers led early, thanks to multiple first-place individual victories from Jack Kunkel, Jay DeLancey, Claire Mowery, Caroline Ousley Naseman, Noah Ousley Naseman and Vincent DiLeonardo, but the Rapids outscored the Squids 70-14 during the relays to capture a 257-187 CSL red division victory.

“The team really stepped up and showed their strength in the individual events,” FMST Coach Kristina Dorville said. “The meet [score] was a roller coaster through the [butter]fly [events] — with our teams being tied, up, and down — [the lead was] changing after almost every event. When you’re close throughout the meet, it always comes down to the relays. That said, the Squids dropped time in almost every event and had some great, unexpected races.”

Also winning in the pool were Squid swimmers Jack Mowery, Katherine Kennedy, Elizabeth Romano, Maria Alvarado, Mariah Bowman, Greyson Devine, Michael Emanuel and Michael DiLeonardo. The eight and under 100-meter medley relay teams of Noah Ousley Naseman, Ryan Kennedy, Jack Kunkel and Greyson Devine and Adeleine Rogers, Claire Mowery, Kaitlin St. Pierre and Maria Alvarado notched the lone FMST relay victories.
