1st SOK commandos kill 5 insurgents, Detain 2 in Nangarhar
NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Commandos of the 1st Special Operations Kandak killed five insurgents in Khogyani district, Nangarhar province, July 9.
The commandos eliminated the enemy fighters while conducting a clearing operation to disrupt insurgent activity in Wazir village.
Afghan National Army Special Forces commandos are an elite group that conducts high-risk operations in remote areas known to be enemy strongholds. These counterinsurgency missions assist national and local police in their efforts to increase security, governance, and development.
“We conducted clearing operations here to eliminate the insurgents' activities and take back the places under Taliban control,” said Lt. Col. Massoud Stanakzai, 1st SOK commander. “We have secured this area so that the people can live peaceably and safely."
No civilians were injured and no structural damages were reported during this operation.
Progress in Afghanistan is real and tangible. With the announcement of the fifth and final tranche of provinces to enter transition to full Afghan security responsibility, the Afghan National Special Operations Command will mark securing Wazir village as another important achievement for Afghanistan.
Both detainees were transferred to the custody of the Khogyani District National Directorate of Security.
