    Joint Task Force-Bravo History

    U.S. and Honduran forces conducted combined training exercises as early as 1965. In 1983, the Honduran government requested an increase in the size and number of those exercises, and as a result, JTF-Bravo was established in August 1984. JTF-Bravo was established to exercise command and control of U.S. Forces and exercises in the Republic of Honduras, and is a subordinate command of the United States Southern Command. Before being designated JTF-Bravo in 1984, this task force was known as JTF-11 and then as JTF-Alpha.

    Joint Task Force-Bravo Mission

    Joint Task Force Bravo, as guests of our Honduran host nation partners and the senior representative for USSOUTHCOM at Soto Cano Air Base, conducts and supports joint operations, actions, and activities
    throughout the joint operations area maintaining a forward presence in order to enhance regional security, stability, and cooperation.

    JTF-Bravo supports U.S. interests in Central America (CENTAM) through:

    • Support to the National Combating-Transnational Organized Crime Strategy - JTF-Bravo provides
    operational and planning support to U.S. and partner nation law enforcement agencies in CENTAM.
    • Humanitarian assistance and disaster relief - JTF-Bravo provides assessment, command and control, search and rescue, and medical evacuation capabilities to respond to natural disasters in CENTAM.
    • Focused community relations - JTF-Bravo supports numerous charitable events to include
    sponsoring five different orphanages that enhance the welfare of local communities around Soto Cano Air Base.
    • Medical readiness and training - JTF-Bravo personnel develop partnerships in CENTAM by conducting training, performing surgeries and providing medical support to contingency operations.

    About Joint Task Force-Bravo

    • The task force is comprised of approximately 600 service members from all branches of the U.S. military.
    • The tour length for most service members is between 90 days and one year
    • The task force consists of a joint staff and multiple major supporting commands: Army Forces/Joint Support Battalion, Joint Security Forces, Medical Element, 612th Air Base Squadron, Army Support Activity and
    1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment.
