BAGHDAD – Apache helicopters providing security for Iraqi army forces killed one insurgent south of Baghdad June 21.
The Apaches were called in after receiving a report that Iraqi soldiers manning a checkpoint were taking fire from a nearby building, said Lt. Col. Paul Marnon, commander of 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division. The Apaches fired on the building and killed one insurgent as he fled the scene.
