QALA-E-NAW, Afghanistan - It ended yesterday at Rui González de Clavijo base the symposium entitled "Law enforcement" for the benefit of the Afghan police’s key officers: the provincial commander general Sharaf-o-Din Sharaf, the district commanders, the office/department heads and some staff officers.

The event, attended by 20 Afghan Uniform Police officers was organized by the Spanish Police Advisor Team - led by the major of the Guardia Civil Ramón Clemente - and was inaugurated by PRT commander - Col. José Luis Murga Martínez - who remarked the importance for every police officer to have a wide knowledge of the law and the relationships with the institutions and the authorities to properly carry out its mission.

Among the lecturers were the judge, the general prosecutor and the antiterrorist prosecutor of Qla-e-Naw - respectively Abdulah Ghassi, Jajji Rahmatullah and Khan Mohammed - besides several Spanish officers of the Guardia Civil and some PRT officers related with legal issues.

During the three day classes, the lectures discoursed on different legal aspects related to the law enforcement, from the legitimate use of force, or community policing, to technical issues, such as crime scene investigation and evidence collection.

The symposium was brought to an end by Gen. Richard Shirreff, deputy SACEUR, who was there for an official visit to the PRT. In his speech he encouraged the policemen to fight against corruption, to protect the people and to struggle for implementing the human rights.

“As long as you do that” he said, “I am confident that Afghanistan will advance toward peace and stability”.

To end the symposium, Gen. Sharaf-o-Din Sharaf took the floor to thank for the effort made and expressed his confidence that the acquired knowledge will be very useful.
