KABUL, Afghanistan - Abdul Rahman, who is attending the commando school at Camp Moorehead, takes a philosophical approach to serving his country. Rahman asks, “If we do not make the effort in this school to learn, is it possible to build this country? This country needs young and strong men like us to be able to defend and improve and there are thousands of other reasons why Afghanistan needs Soldiers, Rashman declared.
Rahman is a realist. Quick to point out Afghanistan’s challenges, Rahman said, “of course, this nation has seen mass destruction during the many years of war, furthermore, but even in the last 12 short years of ease and comfort, we have endured many human and financial sacrifices.”
Rahman continued, pointing out how today’s Afghans feel about joining in the fight, helping to pressure the insurgency.
“The young Afghans - regardless of our encouragement - want to join the forces. They have the sentiment to join us and work shoulder to shoulder to fight the enemy to improve the country. They do not need our encouragements,” Rahman said.
Rahman sees heroism as defending the homeland, but the best meaning of heroism, in my view, is honest efforts - 24-hour effort. We are in need of 24-hour efforts to defend the country. We have a poor country. If we want it to grow, we have to think of future generations, and think of the economy - how we spend the funds, safeguard it and spend wisely.
Rahman said, “if we compare the past with now, there is day and night difference in people’s lives. In the past, we witnessed extensive bloodshed and killing but now, due to National Army’s efforts, the bloodshed is much less. we brought some calm to the country to have our elderly and children live in peace and harmony. Our goal is to bring peace and harmony to the country and nothing else.”
