    371st Sustainment Brigade

CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait The 371st Sustainment Brigade assumed the mission of support operations in joint security area Georgia in support of Operation Enduring Freedom during a transfer of authority ceremony on June 17, 2013 at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

“The soldiers of the 371st sustainment brigade, the sustainment warriors are trained and ready to assume the sustainment mission in JSA Georgia,” said Col. Gregory W. Robinette, the commander of the 371st Sus. Bde.

The transfer of authority process began when the 371st Sus. Bde., based out of Springfield, Ohio, arrived at Camp Arifjan to replace the 38th Sustainment Brigade. The brigade based out of Kokomo, Indiana, was in charge of support operations since October, 2012.

The Ohio unit is now responsible for support operations in JSA Georgia, a region located in the Southwest Asia that includes 10 countries with units operating throughout the area, said Col. Thomas E. Haidet, the deputy commander of the 371st Sus. Bde.

The soldiers of the 371st Sus. Bde. shadowed their 38th Sus. Bde. counterparts for two weeks to learn their daily tasks and responsibilities, to include logistical, administrative and operational support during the deployment.

“The 38th Sus. Bde. built a foundation of professional confidence, creativity, sustainment expertise and a record of mission success upon which we, the 371st Sus. Bde. can and will build,” said Robinette. While the two weeks of training with the 38th Sus. Bde. provided a valuable educational experience for the soldiers of the 371st Sus. Bde., the learning process really began almost a year ago, when the Indiana national guard unit arrived at the mobilization station in Fort Hood, Texas, Haidet said.

“That’s when we started building relationships and trust, and we maintained that correspondence during their deployment,” he said.

For soldiers who have never deployed before like Pfc. Haley E. Alford, a human resource specialist with support operations, 371st Sus. Bde., the training with the Indiana unit has helped her become comfortable with her daily tasks and responsibilities, she said.

The 371st Sus. Bde. has deployed in support of WWI, WWII and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and their current deployment to Kuwait marks the brigade’s third deployment in 10 years.

“I think we have the right people on the team to be very successful,” Haidet said.
