CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait – The 82nd Airborne Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team has arrived in Kuwait and began training in order to better prepare themselves for their tour in Iraq.

The Fort Bragg, N.C. – based Devil Brigade will remain in Kuwait for about two weeks until it will make its way into Iraq.

The brigade is undergoing many different types of training to be better prepared for Iraq. Some of the training includes counter Improvised Explosive Device training, convoy, tactical maneuver and close quarter marksmanship training. The soldiers also had classes on their weapons, IED's and their body armors.

"It gave us a hint of what it would be like in Iraq, and how hard it is to spot an IED," said Pfc. Phillip M. Hurlburt, who is part of the Personal Security Detachment for the 1st BCT Commander Col. Charles A. Flynn.

The first major training the brigade went through was a three day program of instruction. One hundred percent participation was required from the brigade for this training.

"The training puts Soldiers through a series of training events that focus on current technical tactics and procedures in use in Iraq," said Capt. Scott N. Mckay, the brigade training officer.

Soldiers agree the training has helped them with what they expect to see in Iraq.
"The training was very insightful and went into depth on many subjects that seem important to get us better prepared for Iraq," said Hurlburt.

The Army contracted this training to the company Military Professional Resources Incorporated, which has had recent combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan, said Mckay.

Paratroopers from private to major all go through the training together as a group so that every Soldier in the brigade knows they can depend on each other.
"The training is designed to bring Paratroopers from all levels to train and work as one coherent team," said Mckay.

Although the training was tough, it provides the Soldiers with a basic understanding of what to expect in the near future.

"Units are consistently being challenged with realistic training scenarios which give them the opportunity to review and refine their TTP's for tactical movement operations," said Ronald Cole, an Observer Controller for MPRI.
