    KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition security force killed two extremists during an operation in search of a senior Haqqani leader in Zurmat district, Paktiya province, yesterday.

    The senior leader maintains operational control over a group of extremists responsible for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also facilitates the movement of suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices and components in Zurmat district.

    North

    Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the arrest of a Taliban leader during an operation in Sar-e Pul district, Sar-e Pul province, Sunday. The leader oversees a group of fighters responsible for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also facilitates the movement of weapons throughout northern Afghanistan and collects illegal taxes from civilians in order to fund extremist activities.

    South

    An Afghan Provincial Response Company in the Uruzgan province disrupted an extremist operation in which one enemy of Afghanistan was killed and six others arrested. As a result of the operation two caches of weapons and explosive devices were recovered preventing future improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces including possible civilian injuries or deaths.

    A combined operation between Afghan and coalition security forces resulted in three successful operations against extremists in Helmand province, Saturday. The operations yielded the confiscation of several Afghan Uniformed Police uniforms and caches of weapons and explosive materials to be used in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. Four enemies of Afghanistan were arrested who are also suspected of the kidnapping and ransoming of local Afghans.

    East

    Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the arrest of a senior Haqqani leader during an operation in Sayyid Karam district, Paktiya province, June 8. The senior leader coordinates and executes attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also oversees the distribution and transportation of lethal aid for use in extremist attacks and interfaces directly with top Haqqani officials in order to communicate strategic guidance to front-line fighters.

    West

    Afghan National Army special forces, advised by coalition forces, detained five enemies of Afghanistan in Bala Boluk district, Farah province, June 17. The targeted operation degraded the local extremist network and their ability to attack or negatively influence Afghan forces and Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in the district. The detainees are currently in custody of the National Directorate of Security.
