KABUL, Afghanistan - When your nation has been at war for the majority of your life, the thought of peace and security sounds very appealing. For 23 years, Afghan National Army Special Forces Sgt. Maj. Mohammad Mirwais’ life was one filled with days in which he saw his country at war. It has also been one in which he and his countrymen knew no peace.
“There was no peace in our country. None of the non-profit organizations could help our villages because of poor security. I joined the army in order to help our people, to stable security and to bring peace, and for non-profit organizations to be able to travel to the remote areas to help the people,” Mirwais said.
Mirwais is a member of the cadre at the School of Excellence, Special Forces branch in Rishkhor and this senior enlisted leader said he joined the military to help non-profit organizations feel secure enough to go into Afghan villages and help people.
Mirwais said that it was not only his family who made sacrifices, but all the people of Afghanistan who lost members of their families and unable to go to school.
According to Mirwais, the sole purpose of terrorists is to interrupt peace and to create fear among the people. But as long as Afghanistan has brave young men and women like him step up, Afghanistan’s citizens will have the means to stop its enemies.
Mirwais remains optimistic about Afghanistan’s future. He is also very committed to joining with the his brothers and sisters in the ANSF to stop senseless violence and safeguard the people from enemies of Afghanistan.
