GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Qara Bagh district is currently hosting a medical seminar, despite an attack that killed one and wounded seven Afghan civilians June 1.
“The attack at the bazaar was meant to scare the people of Qara Bagh,” said Qara Bagh District Governor Fazil Rehman. “The people will not be scared of progress.”
Enemies of Afghanistan placed and remotely detonated an explosive device on a motorcycle in the Qara Bagh bazaar shortly before noon on Saturday. The blast killed one civilian, wounded six Afghan citizens and one Afghan Uniformed Policeman. The Afghan Uniformed Police and two wounded civilians were taken to Qara Bagh hospital, where they are expected to recover. The other wounded Afghan civilians were taken to Ghazni City hospital, but their condition is currently unknown.
The district governor would not allow the attack to interrupt his plans for continuing development projects. He is currently hosting a scheduled medical seminar that will benefit the citizens in his district.
Rehman organized Afghan Local Police to increase presence patrols, easing the minds of the attendees before the start of the seminar. The ALP is also providing security during the event, a determining factor in continuing with the scheduled date.
Afghan Local Police complement counterinsurgency efforts by assisting and supporting rural areas with Afghan National Security Forces presence to enable conditions for improved security, governance and development.
“The seminar is being held to teach women midwifery techniques and childbirth procedures,” said Rehman. “The lessons taught at the seminar will enable the attendees to teach what they have learned to other citizens of Qara Bagh.”
This is the first of many planned medical events designed to train medical personnel at the district clinic and improve the quality of care available to Qara Bagh citizens.
