Insurgents kill one child, wound another, ALP render aid
KAPISA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Insurgents mortally wounded one child and injured another when they engaged Afghan Local Police with small-arms fire near the Khorgal Bridge in Tagab district, Kapisa province, May 28.
Afghan Local Police were conducting a joint clearing operation with coalition forces when insurgents opened fire on the patrol element, inflicting gunshot wounds to the children.
Afghan Uniformed Police applied emergency aid and evacuated the children to a medical facility in Tagab district for further treatment.
One child died at the hospital from wounds sustained in the incident. The other child is in serious condition and is undergoing surgery.
The Taliban considers Afghan National Security Forces the most significant threat to their activities. Attacks such as these on the Afghan people demonstrate the insurgency’s concern over the strength of the ANSF.
Afghan Local Police complement counterinsurgency by assisting and supporting rural areas with limited Afghan National Security Forces presence, enabling conditions for improved security, governance and development.
